Notes on a cruising section meeting held at the Club on 7th December ‘24
Attending Guy Trench, Malcolm Manning, Hugo Jambon, Herbie and Michele Langston, Andrew Wise, Andrew Chudley, Douglas Potter, Peter Howard (PH)
Matters Arising
All agreed to keep the end of season Commodore’s Sail Past, occurring after the last R.B.O.D. race and should be included in next year’s programme. Whether it was followed by a raft up or Club lunch would be subject to weather and decided on the day. The other sail past to take part in the Cadet Commodore’s sail past.
Events/trips
PH notified the meeting that Steve and Sue Cuthew in Scarlett would be going to Holland early June next year and that he and Paula would be joining them at some stage in southern Holland after first visiting Oostende. Foo would be leaving Burnham late June. The cruise to be included in the programme. Details to follow. The Langstons and Andy Wise to research customs requirements for going foreign.
A trip to Bradwell instead of W. Mersea was agreed and to take place Easter time.
PH to liaise with the RBOD class to ensure we accompany them on their long distance cruise and include it in our programme. This is likely to be to Fambridge.
All agreed that The Langston’s suggestion of a 3 day cruise to The Royal Harwich Y.C., early July was good idea and to be included in the programme.
It was agreed to repeat the Clacton Air Show.
It was agreed to replicate the trip to Pyefleet to coincide with the Thames barge/smack race.
There would be 4 raft ups included in the programme, but impromptu ones to be encouraged. Dates much the same as this year.
Four predicted log exercises to be included throughout the year on the same occasions as this year. All vessels to be encouraged to take part.
Any Other Business
PH explained that the Committee would like to encourage a Cruiser Class dinner, and all agreed that the Thursday during Burnham Week was the best time for this.
PH notified the meeting that the Committee would encourage the cruising group to include the Club catering facilities in their activities as and when possible. PH was also asked to make known to the cruising section the availability of Club lunch hampers which were available to order for events on the river.
Malcolm Manning brought up the subject of impromptu raft ups and the method for communicating said events. It was agreed that the best form of communicating was via the cruising WhatsApp group. All to bear this in mind.
PH to issue, via Sailing Matters, details of what is expected in Predicted Log exercises.
