Team Racing with Essex Yacht Club

Last Sunday saw a welcome return of the Magnus Cup event, raced against our friends from the Essex Yacht Club. This has been paused in recent years, not least due to Covid. It was therefore more than usually pleasant to welcome back the EYC on a bright and breezy Sunday morning. A certain amount of planning went on to lay on a format which took account of various factors, including the age of the boats being lent, the conditions (champagne sailing if it had been a little less gusty?) and the sort of race the guests wanted. So thanks in particular to Andy Wise (PRO), Rupert Brown (wearing an EYC hat), Angela Shephard (RBOD class captain) and Mel Lewis (RBOD class secretary) for putting on a great event – and not least to the RBOD owners who kindly lent their boats. And in case you’re wondering, the home team won team won – but that’s almost incidental. There was a convivial lunch before the trophy was presented. Looking forward to next year when the EYC will host in their boats.
