Your Cadet Committee are pulling some plans together to offer all the Cadets an opportunity to have plenty of fun afloat this season.

In a change to tradition, it is planned that there will be regular Fun Days, so that Cadets can mess about on the river, rather than the normal training and racing. Activities will include developing seamanship skills, raft ups, picnics, water fights and maybe with the odd race thrown in -  the Committee feel this will be a great way to enjoy the water during 2022. Activities will also include paddle boarding, swimming, onshore games, crabbing and much more!!

For less experienced sailors there is the possibility to organise some pond sessions, using the Club’s Optimists. However, the Cadet Committee do need to know very soon about any potential sailors and the availability of volunteers to plan and manage the events. Volunteers will be supported by parents that have been through the exciting and rewarding navigation of getting young children afloat.

The Cadets fleet of boats (Scows, Feva’s and Oppies) will be available to borrow if you don’t have your own dinghy. Also, both RiB’s will be in the water and ready to go, so that any member with RYA PB2 can act as safety or simply go out and watch the seals.

To use a Cadet boat at any time, simply email cadets@rbyc.org.uk and you will be advised on availability and the T&C’s.

More details of Cadet Week (Sunday 14th – Wednesday 17th August ) will be announced later, the structure of the event will be determined by what the Cadets would look to do – this could be 16 windward / leewards, one long distance race of Cape Town to Port and  home or set off on an adventure every day to simply capsize, get wet and have a laugh.

Please contact the Cadet Committee via the email address or speak with Roger, Anna, Jon, Sarah or Fred with any comments or feedback.
